Having landed a huge contract to produce a new mobile game for a major franchise, Brighton based gaming company Boss Alien, needed a new workplace that reflected the brand moving forward whilst keeping in line with the existing values of the business.
The client brief was to create a ‘Home away from Home’ for the staff – a fun, creative and unique environment that also reflects a residential aesthetic and feel.
With the new lease being across 3 floors, it was very important to avoid any disconnection between the floors and staff. To combat this, the GTA design team proposed a collaboration floor to the 2nd Floor, which combines the main meeting spaces with an open kitchen breakout to service all staff. With carefully designed joinery tiered seating, the breakout also doubles up as a ‘town hall’ space and encourages staff from both working floors to collaborate in a central location.
As Brighton is such a unique and creative community, both GTA and the client took the opportunity to showcase this within the space. This is reflected in many ways, from timber pendant lighting (Liqui Design), to the custom neon artwork (Andy Doig) and even serving local beer and coffee in the staff breakout. However, this is showcased no greater than the graffiti murals located on the 2nd floor by Brighton based street artists, Snub23 (Breakout) and Will Blood (Boardroom).
Working closely with GTA and the client, Snub 23’s impressive wrap-around mural within the breakout space, spreads across 4 elevations and integrates with the custom-built joinery. A unique, one of a kind artwork that is the true hero of the space.
The 2nd floor design combines exposed ceiling services, industrial style furniture, and both dark stained & raw plywood joinery. A contemporary finishes palette which includes timber look LVT flooring, textured high pile carpet tiles and the warm tones of patterned fabrics.
This design continues across the 2 working floors with the addition of sit to stand workstations (Moventi), featuring plywood edging as a link back to the joinery design. Bespoke vinyl wall coverings also feature across the floors, that display artwork from Boss Alien’s games both past and present.
