During Milan Design Week 2019, Italian-Brazilian designers Ronald Sasson, Giorgio Bonaguro and Gustavo Martini have joined forces for their second collaborative project Marble Stories II. Strengthening the link between Brazil and Italy, the exhibition presents the designers’ unique styles aimed at telling different stories through the use of a single precious material – marble. This year, the chosen raw material for the entire body of work is exclusively Brazilian.
Michelangelo Marmores do Brasil, an important marble quarry from the Paranà region has teamed up with the three designers and Marimar, a marble company based in Verona. The exotic Brazilian stones, chosen for their original textures, have been transformed into sculptural products in the hands of expert Italian craftsmen.
Italic by Gustavo Martini is a series of luminous sculptures characterised by aesthetics synonymous with the typographic universe. Each symbol is composed of slanted lines with backlighting, reminiscent of objects carved in stone in ancient Rome.
Equilibrium by Giorgio Bonaguro explores the theme of movement and light, as an installation of luminous marble sculptures. On one hand, the works are inspired by minimalist sculpture by artists such as John McCracken, Carl Andre or Dan Flavin, while on the other hand, they are reminiscent of the curved, enveloping forms of Brazilian architecture.
Pol Circle by Ronald Sasson is a manifestation of the designer’s recent research on Kinetic Art and its direct relationship to comfort and well-being in design. Sasson observed the work of Belgian artist Pol Bury and has created a series of illuminated halos repeated in a rhythmic movement.
Marble Stories II is taking place at Carte Scoperte, an illustrious Milanese art gallery, on Via Maroncelli, 7.
