Graoni Beach House
Perched on the Malibu coastline, added elevation on the first level of this beach house accounts for predicted rising sea levels, elongating the existing structure. The design emphasizes the present views of the site allowing each space to take advantage of the unique qualities of the oceanfront home while natural light courses throughout each level. Sitting over 16ft above sea level, tiered terraces frame two stacked volumes with vertical exterior fins to create structural depth. Raised windows and ceilings expand the space and frame the beach views, while a combined kitchen, dining and family room create an open floor plan. The entryway focuses on a warm, inviting space that opens up into the larger main floor’s vast views of the ocean and carries natural light through the second floor to create an airier, alluring home that extends well beyond the beach below.

Carla Ridge
Overlooking Beverly Hills, this single-story residence offers unique views of the hillside, valley and expanding city beyond. The home seamlessly blends interior and exterior spaces by intertwining several courtyards to offer moments of environmental reprieve. Overlapping horizontal rooflines with extended overhangs expand spatial volumes while a higher roof 'propped up' with clerestory windows allow more natural light at the core of the building. A layered and textured material palette is combined with clean, modern lines throughout the home to create subtle warmth and movement throughout the expansive spaces. Rear views are maximized by several outdoor living spaces and a curved pool while an island of planting creates privacy between the master suite deck and the rest of the rear yard.

N Apartment
Nestled in the heart of Tel Aviv, the N apartment, a 67-square-meter space, embodies a blend of history and contemporary design. This home, situated on the second floor of an aging building, underwent a transformation that redefined its structure and the life of its owner, a Tel Avivian consultant in her thirties. With a vision crafted by the talented interior designer Maya Sheinberger, the apartment tells a story of meticulous redesign and modern sophistication.
The project began with the client's dream: converting a single-bedroom apartment with an integrated kitchen and living room, including an enclosed balcony, into a 2.5-room space featuring a half-room dedicated to a work and wardrobe area. The challenge was to reopen the enclosed balcony, adding breadth and light to the space.
In the design phase, natural materials were chosen to highlight and harmonize with the original architectural elements. The spaces feature natural stone and marble surfaces, complemented by exposed concret ...

01 Breathing New Life
We draw the energy of life from nature and gain insights into life from our homes. When sunshine and plants become the gentle presentation of the home, it feels like stepping into a shady oasis, inviting everyone to explore the inner beauty instinctively.
The combination of soft primrose yellow and relaxed basil green forms the main color palette of the space, evoking the joy and sense of belonging in the home. The pure natural materials are cleverly integrated with modern furniture, revealing the warmth of life amidst simplicity. Bathed in natural light, the comfort and poetry of daily life slowly unfold.

Casa Cirilo
Located in the heart of Valencia, Casa Cirilo opens its doors as a comprehensive reform project whose main objective was to provide modernity and functionality to the whole house.
Its 120 sqm of surface are screened with a wooden floor in the form of herringbone. Wood once again stands out as the material that welcomes, integrates and harmonizes the different rooms of the house.
In the purest style of the houses of the Valencian Ensanche, Casa Cirilo was based on being a dark house, with a long corridor and compartmentalized in small and impractical rooms for today's uses.
The clients had the fundamental premise of giving the house as much light as possible, as well as gaining functionality and practicality.
This has been achieved by integrating the kitchen with the living/dining room of the house, but maintaining the separation of the rooms with a sliding glass door. Thanks to this element we gain entry of light and generate greater feeling of spaciousness to the whole day area.

9720 Wilshire
The project, completed by Montalba Architects in 2022 is a significant historical renovation of the original 1962 Edward Durrell Stone Building and a transformation of the basement level through addition of a new light filled garden atrium and sculpture that defines the plaza along Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Beverly Hills.
Originally recognized as one of the most significant West Coast buildings by prominent master architect Edward Durell Stone, the New Formalist structure was completed in 1962. Over the years, the historical building and its public plaza have remained an iconic location on Wilshire, yet much of the structure remained untouched from its last renovation a few decades ago.
Montalba Architects was tasked by the Client to restore and upgrade the building to be more in line with its original status and prominence while creating a place that promotes community for the users of the building. Through placemaking, a once outdated plaza and underutilized space now promote eng ...

A Place That Keeps On Supporting Creativity
The project is a relocation of the headquarter of a game production company based in Tokyo. It is aimed to become a place for the highest level of creation that captivates fans worldwide and for supporting the foundation of the game production process. As almost all employees engage exclusively in creative operation, we focused mainly on providing a balance between concentration and relaxation while significantly removing the burden of operational work. We strived to achieve them by introducing slanted walls that characterize the exterior and a system to control all facilities, including security, with tablets.
We placed the areas mainly used by visitors on the lower floors, while the level of privacy and confidentiality increase as the levels get higher. On the second and third floors that face the elevated railroad tracks, we placed programs that require isolation from the outside such as the theater and the studios. The slanted walls are hi ...
Contraste
Goodhope
The aim of the project was to create a cohesive space within two buildings; one a former mechanical garage (circa 1940’s), the other a nondescript 1960s commercial building stepping down the hill on Goodhope Street, around 700 square metres in total, combined. “The idea was to restore the building fabric of the old mechanic’s garage, and then to sleeve in the new offices under that existing structure, so it reads internally like a building within a building, highlighting the contrast between old and new,” explains THOSE Architects Director, Ben Mitchell. “We had to apply a different approach to natural light in this space, using skylights in the restored ceiling, and then glass ceilings and timber-framed glass walls in the new offices.” Entry to the space is via Seasaw Film Productions who have fifteen offices under the restored gabled roof. Through the courtyard to the new building there are two executive offices and open plan workspace for eighteen people is set out over two lev ...
Loft Milanese

Setouchi Hideaway Resort AMERI
The inn is located on the remote island of Momoshima, off the coast of Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and rents out a single building.
Momoshima is a small, isolated island with a circumference of about 12 km, and the current population is less than 400, a figure that has been declining over time.
In the northwestern part of the island, there is a peninsula-like outcrop of land that was once a prosperous vacation spot, dotted with land and buildings that had been abandoned for many years. The plan for this one-room inn came amidst a growing movement to utilize these lands and buildings in order to revitalize this area, and by extension, the island of Momoshima.
The site is located about 30 meters from a sandy beach where the gentle waves of the Seto Inland Sea lap the shore.
In designing the building, we sought to maximize the charm of the island.
In order to maximize the view of the sea for visitors, we designed the guest rooms to have a “view room” with a raised floor level to ...
Joseph
Delivered in April 2024, ‘Joseph’ – Krug’s new champagne-making facility in Ambonnay – complements and enhances the Krug Family House project in Reims, delivered by AW2 in 2017. In both projects, the objective was to tell the story of a distinguished champagne house and its world, to pay homage to its history, and to guide it into the future. In Ambonnay, two new aspects of this rich heritage are explored: the fascinating process of champagne production, and Krug’s commitment to integrating harmoniously into the village of Ambonnay, showcasing its local terroir. ‘Joseph’ – named in homage to the champagne house’s founder, Joseph Krug – was designed to restructure and centralise the oenological activities within a modern, functional building that would be pleasant to work in and provide the best possible conditions for the staff. The aim was to showcase the champagne house’s work, in total harmony with its physical and human environment.

Bunkie on the Hill
The smallest in a collection of cabins scattered across four family properties, a Bunkie on the Hill serves as a space of respite for a family-oriented client in Muskoka. The Bunkie, tucked into the trees at the top of a steep slope, was designed to provide a quiet space away from the action of the multi-generational family cottages below.
A contemporary interpretation of the traditional A-frame shape evokes the quintessential cabin in the woods, differentiated by shifted roof volumes. Reminiscent of the overlapping layers of shale rock in the surrounding landscape, the split roof design features two intersecting gables that create opportunities for window openings where the roof volumes separate. These geometric windows allow for curated views of the treetops on one side and lake below on the other and invite natural light to flood the interior of the cabin, reflecting off the sharp roof angles and creating dramatic lines and shadows. The cabin’s split roof design also generates disti ...
Copper Harbor
The Copper Harbor house is perched on the shore of Lake Superior, nestled in a forested lot on the edge of the Upper Peninsula of Lake Michigan. Built to withstand the harshest conditions, this house is a place to shelter from snow and wind: a private refuge built to experience the natural beauties of the site.
The clients desired a modern, streamlined retreat to escape the city. The house aims to create a feeling of protection within while still opening to the beautiful landscape beyond. Two volumes are formed by metal shells which extend toward the water. The solidity of each shell is contrasted with a wall of glass providing light, directing views, and extending the living space out on cantilevered decks toward the water. A linear gasket serves as an entry to the house, a connection between the two shells, and a division between public and private spaces. One shell contains the public areas: kitchen, living, and dining, while the other holds the sleeping quarters and bathrooms. A thi ...
Toiletowa
TOILETOWA is an architecture of circulation and regeneration that makes this visible. More than just a toilet, it was built as an environmental education space attached to the headquarters of Ishizaka Corp in Oak Forest, which recycles industrial waste and serves as a model for a future waste-free, recycling-oriented society.
It is a wooden building consisting of a toilet building with a circular rammed earth wall made of recycled soil NS-10 developed by Ishizaka Corp,, and a tank building that shows the process of perfect recycling and circulating wastewater by combined fermentation of microorganisms. To reduce the environmental impact, the foundation is made of crushed stone instead of concrete. - Made using wooden stakes. With the theme of recycling in the materials used, the interior walls and earthern floors of the toilet building are made of almost recycled materials of soil, wood, and glass. The hand wash and toilet bowls are also made of recycled wood chips.

A Californian Classic Reimagined
Sydney architect David Parsons has revitalised a classic Californian bungalow in the
leafy suburb of Rosebery. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for seamless
indoor-outdoor living, David, principal of David Parsons Architect,
transformed the home into a sun-drenched sanctuary, taking ‘lifestyle’ to a whole
new level.
This comprehensive renovation fulfilled an ambitious vision. "The clients desired an
additional level with two bedrooms and an ensuite, a redesigned open-plan living
area that flowed onto the pool area, and a new double garage," he elaborates.
Balancing the client's vision with heritage and height restrictions coupled with
ensuring ample sunlight for the pool were key challenges. A meticulous design
process, aided by 3D modelling, resulted in a solution that met all requirements.
The upper-level addition features a gable/hip roof design optimised to preserve the
pool's sunlight. The existing living and kitchen area were replaced with a brand-new

• Building area: 682 sqm

The Terra Cotta Workshop is a complex of spaces shaped by brick walls: two long folded walls and a circular wall surrounding the orginal brick kiln - an architecture, that existed from more than 20 Years ago, has been preserved and is the core of the new workshop.
The craftsmen’s daily activities have maintained like a habit since the presence of former workshop. New architecture came later and was formed from the process of observing light, wind direction, footsteps, sitting position, walking style, and how to turn to find the appropriate source of light to make sculptural works. All these activities are condensed and arranged into basic geometric spaces.

House with a Crown
The task was to expand the living space for a young family into an existing 2-story single-family house. In order to keep the burden on the existing building with an additional floor low and to enable a quick construction time, the extension was constructed using timber construction.
Wood as a natural material was specifically made visible on the facade and in the interior.
A large glass facade in the attic offers a magnificent view and brings nature into the open loft.
