Atelier Aveus, a multi-disciplinary design practice founded by French architect and designer Morgane Roux-Lafargue, has unveiled a new interiors series inspired by the peculiar atmosphere of Hitchcock’s movies, showcasing three of her latest furniture & lighting pieces. The studio’s work is grounded in strong conceptual ideas largely informed by deep research of diverse cultural references, aiming to combine the worlds of design and art. The resulting pieces are not only beautiful but also rich with meaning, their function often only understood on a second glance. Inspired by the way Hitchcock represented the physical world through carefully constructed set and lighting design, Morgane began to curate her own storyboard of scenes as the stage for her new furniture pieces.
Morgane harnessed the dramatic potential of each space, creating environments with controlled conditions and an unfolding narrative – the scenes move between the privacy of the domestic sphere and shared space of a lobby. Architectural features like doors, windows or staircases became ‘actors’ within the narrative, their compositions largely informing the unsettled and suspenseful atmosphere captured throughout the visuals. There is a playful fusion of reality and fiction, mixing furniture, dialogue and colours taken directly from the film director’s famous movies the scenes were inspired by (think Vertigo, Rebecca and Rear Window). The collection includes a suspended glass & steel light, an upholstered armchair and a console and mirror set.
