In 1968, FontanaArte launched the Re and Regina lamps, designed by the Milanese artist Bobo Piccoli (born 1927), including them in their collection renowned for combining art and industrial production.

With sinuous shapes inspired by the game of chess, Re and Regina appear as two key chessboard characters. Their form is a play on alternating spheres, cylinders and rings of light – the vertical is the King (Re) and horizontal is the Queen (Regina).

The two profiles stand out clearly as a white object diffused by the opalescent glass. The dimmer allows the modulation of the light, adding a surreal element and varying degrees of intensity. By day, the lamps appear as glass sculptures in environments illuminated by natural light.

Re and Regina can be placed next to each other or in different spots in the same room – they can be used as floor or table lamps, on a coffee table or a desk.
