Launched in 2015, customisable furniture brand Reddie is relatively young. It already has, however, a strong identity, born out of its two founders’ clear vision. Since their debut, husband and wife Andrew and Caroline Olah have been guided by a straightforward yet ambitious leitmotiv – “design that fits”.
Everything started in New York City, where Caroline, an interior architect, was unable to find simple and timeless pieces that could be customised to fit specific room sizes and styles, much less at a good price point. The problem led her to create Reddie, with the objective of making furniture customisation easy and fun, and ultimately allow people to throw out less and treasure more, favouring a slow living and slow consumption approach. But developing the idea into a reality was not an easy task, and Andrew and Caroline quickly realised a high dose of creativity and entrepreneurship would be required to make it happen.

“When coming up with the concept for Reddie (handcrafted, timeless and customisable designs), we approached many factories, but due to the sheer difficulties of customising each product, none of them was willing to get on board”, the duo remembers. “So we had to think differently, and we decided to build a team of our own in Central Java, Indonesia — where great craftsmanship and quality material coexist in one place.” (Andrew and Caroline are also both half Indonesian.)

Currently based in Sydney with a showroom in Surry Hills, the brand combines architectural lines with mid-century sensibility through premium quality and made-to-order products in different sizes and materials such as solid teak wood, marble, metal, laminate and glass, along with leather/vinyl, velvet and outdoor/indoor fabric, all with multiple colour options.
The craftsmen team behind the brand is trained in traditional Danish woodworking and, for skills such as leatherwork, marble and metalwork, Reddie works with smaller factories in the region, supporting their growth along with the local economy.
