Barcelona-based furniture and product designer, Max Enrich, has a penchant for turning the relationship of function and form on its head. Enrich believes in the infinite potential of the most common of materials, exploring new creative processes and elevating the ordinary through a signature playful approach, where colour is key. Yes!

A case in point is his Totems collection of floor lamps made from a very ordinary, unexpected material – upholstery foam. The lamps’ simple shapes contrast the noble materials, the extraordinary attention to detail and the organic forms of Antoni Gaudi’s famed Casa Batlló – one of Barcelona’s architecture icons.

“These lamps do not intend to blend into the space, but quite the opposite,” says Enrich. “They seek non-integration to generate tension with the house. Their artificiality pretends to make such a complex environment uncomfortable.”

We dig.
