Some people don’t like seeing holes. Because of an uncomfortable shiver running down the spine. Goose bumps. Sweaty hands. All these “because of” scientists call trypophobia. A relatively new term expresses the irrational fear of shapes or patterns pitted in holes. The Ukrainian designer Sergey Makhno translated the concept into the language of design. A metal chair is made of 20 mm bent pipes and perforated sheets. “The clusters of holes are common in nature, but not in design. You saw many holey honeycombs or holey sponges, but not holey chairs”, says the author.
The chair became a step to make people desensitized to holes. Surrounding yourself with triggers will help to overcome an inner fear. The versatility allows using chair in any type of space, from a public area to a home environment. “People shouldn’t be frightened by holes. Aerated chocolate can't harm. This chair is like aerated chocolate”.
