Motivated by the lockdown we all are going through the Shelter desk arises as a natural impulse to design something that would fit most home offices environments by improving their productivity. Also, since we had to adapt to new normal practically overnight there was a big demand on this kind of solutions, especially when seeing a big wave of change as more and more companies were letting employees work from home.
As expected, these were days of uncertainty and fear of something we did not knew at all, and hence the name “Shelter”. The goal was to design something that somehow could be a driver of tranquility and serenity, something that could create an organic connection between the desk and the user. It was felt that this was also a noble solution to a real problem, and since most of the designs were focusing on masks and ventilators the decision was to create something more oriented towards the mental health.
The chosen materials were based on eco-design trends, that are becoming mandatory by the minute, but they were also selected for their warmth, value, touch, and other characteristics capable of providing nice feelings while near it.
Regarding the overall design approach, the motivation was clearly to act in concordance with the ways we are used to work in our reality and the tools we use to do it, considering the link between individual and technology something evident. The result was a desk focused on boosting productivity and storage management enabling interesting ways to connect the devices through the back to up the front drawers.
The design language finds its most unique feature in the rounded drawers giving the desk’s a differentiating aspect. In short, all elements were designed to align seamlessly between each other always considering keywords such as simple, functional and human.
