Tidal Design by Needs Studio x Lodes

Italian lighting manufacturer Lodes has expanded its Tidal collection with a new suspension lamp that merges fluid forms with technical innovation. Created in collaboration with Needs Studio, the pendant version joins the existing ceiling-mounted design to offer exceptional luminous efficiency through its distinctive ring-shaped profile.
The luminaire features a ring-shaped form that appears to hover weightlessly in space. "Suspended between sky and sea, the new Tidal reinterprets the elegance of the original lamp, taking its fluid, celestial design to new dimensions," explains Needs Studio. "The ring, symbolising the perpetual motion of tides and celestial bodies, transforms spaces through its soft, dynamic luminous effect."
At the core of the design is an innovative double-shell structure that balances direct and indirect illumination. The asymmetrical profile, characterized by varying widths across its circumference, creates an engaging visual tension while minimizing glare. Despite housing a powerful 6,000-lumen light source, all technical components are elegantly concealed within the lamp's slim profile.
The suspension system employs three delicate cables that connect to a specially designed circular ceiling canopy. Available in matte white or black finishes, the canopy's diameter is intentionally smaller than the ring, creating an illusion of the fixture floating within the ceiling plane.
The Tidal comes in two variants: a standard model with 4-metre suspension cables and a sophisticated rise-and-fall version. The latter incorporates a concealed winding mechanism allowing height adjustments up to 1.5 metres through intuitive gestures.
With a diameter of 60 centimetres, the pendant is offered in four matte finishes: white, terra, champagne, and black. This versatility makes it suitable for both residential and commercial applications. The adjustable version is particularly well-suited to hospitality spaces, where flexible lighting configurations are essential.
"Tidal has been part of our collection since 2022," notes Lodes Managing Director Massimiliano Tosetto. "This expansion into suspended lighting maintains our commitment to both aesthetic excellence and practical functionality, particularly in hospitality environments where adaptable lighting solutions are crucial."
