Cooleen showcases the synergy between three build and design teams to deliver a refined Sydney home where form, function and materiality create a space that feels effortlessly livable. In Blakehurst in Sydney’s south, Cooleen is a modern luxury home designed for effortless living and grand entertaining. Brought to life through the combined vision of Habitat Housing as architect, MXM Design Studio as interior designer and Dimah Construction as builder, the residence reflects a seamless collaboration grounded in shared attention to detail and design integrity. Every element embodies craftsmanship and cohesion – an achievement made possible through the synergy between architecture, interiors and construction.
“From the outset, there was a shared vision and a genuine respect for each discipline’s expertise,” says Dimah Construction’s Hamid Gittany. “Each party approached the project with openness and trust, allowing ideas to evolve naturally while staying true to the home’s intent.”Drawing inspiration from the coastal landscape, the architecture expresses soft curves and organic forms across multiple elevations. A palette of beige brickwork, textured render and natural stone reinforces a calm, beach-inspired character. The sculptural spiral staircase forms the heart of the home, drawing light deep into the interior and creating a natural rhythm between levels and landscape.
“The owners are from a Mediterranean background and have a young family, so from the start we wanted the home to reflect that – a place that feels welcoming and connected,” says Samuel Russo, director of Habitat Housing. “The soft curves, arches and natural materials nod to a Mediterranean sensibility but are interpreted in a contemporary way.”Russo explains that the sweeping stair was a technically challenging feature. “It was designed as the heart of the home, visible from every level,” he says. “We worked closely with Dimah to refine the structure and proportions. Their respect for the design intent and attention to detail were key to bringing this vision to life.”
For the interiors, MXM Design Studio layered a sense of refined luxury through material harmony. “A restrained yet layered palette of natural stone, warm timber and plaster runs throughout, creating harmony and flow,” says studio director Madeleine Karrys. “Even where we introduced red travertine and deeper terracotta tones, it felt completely intentional and they blend seamlessly into the warmth of the palette.”For co-director Marie Daaboul, the home’s success lies in collaboration. “We all shared the same respect for detail, proportion and craft,” she says. “That open dialogue meant every junction, transition and material connection could be carefully considered, creating a home where the architecture and interiors speak the same quiet language.”
Outdoors, a pool and cabana extend the home’s easy rhythm of relaxation and entertaining. Planting selections draw on the client’s Mediterranean heritage, using texture, fragrance and tone to continue the architectural narrative into the landscape. “Every space feels connected, part of a cohesive whole with no moment that feels out of place,” says Karrys. “As you move through the home, there’s a lightness, almost a feeling of floating, as each surface and finish transitions seamlessly into the next.”“This project is a testament to what’s possible when collaboration is genuine and egos are set aside,” adds Hamid Gittany. “When builder, architect and designer work in sync, the result transcends individual contribution. It becomes a unified expression of craftsmanship and intent.”
