On the beachfront at Burleigh Heads, Pask’s Ocean Place offers the finest in luxury apartment living, opening up to spectacular sea views at every turn. The first thing you notice when stepping into the stunning half- and full-floor residences in Ocean Place is the horizon. “We wanted to create a feeling of being on the beach – aesthetically and experientially – regardless of whether there was sand beneath your feet,” says Sue Carr, architect and founder of Carr. The firm collaborated with Woods Bagot on the building’s exterior while also leading the interior design.

The stand-out complex is located at Burleigh Heads, which has transformed over the past decade from a sleepy Gold Coast surf suburb to a chic holiday destination for foodies, wellness gurus and sun-seekers – yet it still maintains its easy-going beachside charm. Ocean Place embodies this essence of laid-back luxury, responding to the natural beauty of the area while offering an elegant, elevated haven from daily life.Designed for leading developer Pask’s Signature portfolio – a limited collection of boutique-scale, multi-residential developments in sought-after coastal and inner-city locations across Queensland and Victoria – the brief called for a timeless, luxury property that respected the local environment. “We wanted to create a peaceful retreat that mirrors the serene beauty of the location and provides a luxurious escape from the everyday hustle and bustle,” says Carr.

Mirroring the site’s curved headland and sweeping foreshore, the slender, curvilinear form of Ocean Place rises 20 storeys from lush, subtropical gardens. Woods Bagot embraced a natural palette and materials for the facade, with sand-hued concrete and aluminium screening. Generous balconies overlook the ocean and provide all-day shelter from the sun, while the screening – referencing the aesthetic of traditional Queenslanders – filters light and admits cooling sea breezes while still allowing for privacy. The light-filled full-floor apartments, dubbed the Horizon Collection, are designed as homes in their own right – spacious, secluded and tranquil. Carr envisioned each one as a sanctuary, extending the architectural expression of the exteriors with curved joinery, soft neutral tones and a minimal yet inviting design language. Rather than over-the-top opulence, each residence is imbued with a sense of elegance through premium materials, refined finishes and considered details.

The material palette draws inspiration from the beachside setting. A sculptural, wave-like kitchen island – formed of exquisite fusion marble, whose flowing white and grey veining echoes the patterns of waves on a shoreline – is the centrepiece of the grand open-plan kitchen.Meanwhile, the half-floor apartments, known as the Solstice Collection, are defined by the delicate grey shades and subtle textures of cashmere travertine, reflected across the benchtops, splashback and bathrooms. “Ocean Place presents an authentic, enduring materiality,” says Carr associate director Bianca Dignan. “It’s atmospheric and comforting, with tactile richness expressed through stone and micro-cement.Natural light enhances these qualities, bringing depth to the interiors.”

In the Horizon Collection, pale timber flooring leads to the main bedroom wing and secondary bedrooms, all thoughtfully positioned away from common areas. Oriented to the north-east, the expansive primary suite is an airy haven adjoined by a marble-wrapped ensuite with freestanding bath and dual showers. A guest suite and two double bedrooms face the south-west, while a second balcony offers views towards the lush Gold Coast hinterland. With every step, you are called back to that uninterrupted view of the horizon. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the living and dining areas can be retracted to create one continuous indoor-outdoor setting, with vistas that stretch from the shoreline out to where sky meets sea. A glass-walled wine room and a discreet, fully equipped scullery adjacent to the kitchen create an atmosphere ideal for gathering and entertaining.

Extending the residences’ resort-like feel, the lobby also draws on the project’s close connection to the beach. Natural stone finishes accommodate mailboxes and parcel lockers, while outdoor showers and wellness facilities such as a 15-metre pool, sundeck with hot and cold plunge pools, infrared sauna, yoga room and gym allow for both movement and relaxation. Secure surfboard and bike storage give residents easy access to outdoor activities, making the most of the coastal lifestyle.Through Ocean Place’s stunning vistas, timeless interiors and luxury amenities, Woods Bagot and Carr have created a sublime escape where respite and serenity are paramount. Pask has partnered with Versatile Construction to bring Ocean Place to life, and the build is expected to be complete in late 2027.
