In his São Paulo home, Brazilian design dealer Ulysses de Santi lives daily with the country's creative heritage that he champions so passionately. “What draws me to Brazilian Modernism is the way it combines clarity and simplicity with warmth and character,” he says. “The designers of that era were thoughtful about materials, craft, and proportion, creating pieces that feel purposeful yet alive.” No surprise, then, that the apartment he shares with his family was conceived as a “living archive” of Brazil’s finest midcentury designs. “Living with these works allows me to experience that balance daily, letting the objects continue to speak and inspire.”​

The São Paulo home is also a sanctuary, born of the need for a restful retreat after much globetrotting. “After years of living between Los Angeles, London, and São Paulo, I felt a strong pull to anchor our family life back in Brazil,” de Santi explains. “We have many friends here, and much of my work and sourcing also takes place in the city.” The apartment he chose is in the Jardins neighbourhood, an area he’s always loved for its leafy, quiet character. “The moment I saw it, I was struck by its generous scale, natural light, and the feeling of privacy,” he says.

Though the apartment was formerly quite segmented – typical of many older properties in the area – de Santi knew it had immense potential. He enlisted a close friend, architect Fernando Falcon of Tacoa Arquitetos, to help him reimagine the layout. “To achieve the openness I wanted, we demolished numerous walls to create fluid, connected spaces,” he says. “Fernando understood exactly the kind of calm spatial clarity I wanted to achieve. He helped translate my ideas down to the smallest details. My goal was to create an atmosphere of total serenity – because our lives are spread across multiple cities, I wanted this apartment to feel grounding, a place where everything unnecessary falls away.”
