Luxury Island Resort
Abu Dhabi
Nestled within a tidal mangrove ecosystem,
this project reimagines luxury by working
with nature rather than imposing upon it.

Along the fringes of Al Jubail Island, the resort is planned as a calm, car free enclave where arrival, movement and architecture are all shaped by the character of the mangroves.
The design weaves water, vegetation and architecture into a
quiet island landscape, where one bedroom beach villas occupy the threshold between sea and mangrove. Although the resort is close to the city, the chalets are oriented toward the open ocean, preserving a sense of seclusion.
Inside, a restrained palette of stone, timber and finely detailed screens frames long views and softens the light, creating layers of privacy rather than hard separations. The villas are planned to feel gently enclosed yet visually open, offering an ultra-luxury residential experience that sits in tune with the surrounding ecosystem.

Arrival
is choreographed as a gradual change of pace. Guests leave their cars at the mangrove visitor centre and follow a quiet road through the forest before reaching the main pavilion, where curved forms, water and deep shade establish the tone of the resort.
Rather than centring on a reception counter, the space is conceived as a generous welcome hall. Guests are received, oriented and then continue by buggy to their villas, reinforcing the sense of privacy and ease. The pavilion functions as a threshold between city and sanctuary, allowing the atmosphere of the mangroves to become the defining impression

Natural timber, locally sourced stone and minimalist joinery anchor the architecture in place.
The palette is intentionally understated, favouring longevity and calm over spectacle.

At the shoreline, the specialty restaurant takes its cues from the coast. A gently undulating roof and curved glazing recall the patterns of sand and tide, while the interior opens directly onto terraces so that dining naturally extends outdoors.
The room is composed to keep the landscape in constant dialogue with the table: framed views, softened edges and a pared back materiality ensure that the sea and sky remain the focus. Architecture sets the stage and then steps back, allowing the setting and the act of gathering to define the experience.

The lounge pavilions form the social heart of the resort. Low structures are arranged around reflective water, with sunken seating, generous canopies and fire features to support day to night use.
Curved corners, layered screens and gentle level changes give the spaces a relaxed, almost residential character while quietly echoing the organic forms of the mangrove. During the day, the lounge offers shade and long, quiet views over the landscape. After dark, it becomes a place to sit close to the water, watch the stars and listen to the movement of wind and tide.

The outcome is a resort
visionof calm sophistication, where luxury is defined by immersion in nature and considered spatial experience rather than overt extravagance.
