Towering above Melbourne, Cloud Residence – with furniture and art curation by Furnishd – is a study in natural light and the marriage of local materiality and refined global influences.For a client with a deep love of travel and an international perspective, World Class Global has developed a residence that not only reflects those twin passions but embraces the extraordinary vistas captured in the sub-penthouse Melbourne apartment, located in a multi-residential complex by FK. The design is at once elevated and refined but also grounded in textural warmth. Neutral-toned walls bounce the celestial Melbourne light around cosy and vast spaces alike, while floor-to-ceiling windows allow the sun to cast its glow, particularly during the city’s golden hour when the spaces bask in transformative light.

To balance the sky sanctuary’s inherent sense of luxury with groundedness, creating spaces that felt calm, inviting and lived-in was crucial. Melbourne interior design studio Furnishd brought its refined curatorial eye to Cloud Residence, interpreting the client’s global-meets-local philosophy into furniture, sculptural forms, expressive artworks and layered textures. The studio’s ethos – designing and decorating elevated spaces that speak to the soul as well as feeling attainable and inviting – is evident at every turn.In the combined living and dining area, dramatic drapes soften the expanse of windows, while luxurious textured fabrics on the Spin sectional sofa by HC28 and Oyster armchairs by Jörg Boner for Wittmann, all from DOMO, provide an inspiring place to sit and watch the sky transform. Enhancing the curved lines of the cloud-like seating are Clare Cousins’ Ivy coffee table for Grazia & Co, a Kartell Thierry side table by Piero Lissoni from Space, Asola floor lamp in vert bronze from Ligne Roset and Gubi Matégot trolley.

The deeper tones of these side pieces are in sync with the rich hues of the WuDai walnut dining table by Wei Wu for Studio BASE in the dining room, which has been paired with Lachlan recycled leather dining armchairs from GlobeWest. Curated objects in the space, including a mahogany Zuil sculpture from Front Room Gallery and Luminescence artwork by Robbie Harmsworth via Studio Gallery, feel both elevated and personal. Diiva swivel stools by Grazia & Co in satin black bring a subtle pop of colour to the neutral-toned kitchen.In the main bedroom, the mood changes. While the living spaces celebrate the apartment’s aerial aspect and the sprawling city below, the sleep space is a calming, ultra-luxurious retreat with softly layered linens and gentle, tactile surfaces, such as the playful, furry Arflex Botolo armchair by Cini Boeri from Space and a lush deep-red velvet bedhead. Anni bedside tables by HC28 Cosmo topped with Kartell Cindy lamps in platinum create picturesque bedside vignettes.

A second bedroom and home office feature a natural, soothing colour palette, along with restful finishes and fabrics. An AS1C table lamp by Franco Albini for Nemo adds an architectural touch to the office, while curated objects and art bring personality to the second sleeping space.Throughout Cloud Residence, Furnishd has created sensorial spaces that envelop their inhabitants in a profound sense of comfort and serenity. The studio’s sculptural, minimal approach doesn’t fight with the preponderance of natural light or the extraordinary views, but embraces both, creating a home that is both open and intimate, elevated yet inviting.
