modular-living-room-furniture-collection.jpg
Small space design at its finest, Boxetti is back with the ultimate modular living room furniture set – an entire collection of designs including storage units, stools, side and coffee tables packed (as always) into a single sleek white-and-orange box. Regular readers who have seen some great works by Boxetti before: this is the final piece, the last in the series to round out a convertible contemporary furniture collection that (combined) could be used to outfit an entire apartment, condo or small home.

For starters, the pull out the coffee table modules (which double as footstools) reveal a three-seat couch with padded cushions. Side wings flip up and out to make additional side-table space. A few quick conversions and the available surface area is multiplied a few times over – making room for you to take a seat with a few guests and kick up your feet as well.

And in case you want to work a bit, there is even a small home-office component in the back – a folding table and extra chair for sitting and working while everyone else takes a load off around you. Colorful and cool, these designs from Boxetti always seem to push the limits of space-age style, maximize modularity and make use of the smallest possible spaces.

boxetti-interior-design-layout.jpg
It is one thing to design a space-saving idea for a single room, or a piece of multi-purpose transforming furniture … but this collection is on another scale entirely. From all-in-one living, kitchen and work spaces to convertible couches and expanding entertainment centers, Boxetti has raised the bar on (or: opened a box of) modern modular interior designs.

In fact, it is too much for one article – so consider this an introduction to what may be the coolest contemporary attempt to create all-in-one furniture for virtually every room of a home. The concept itself is fairly simple: using a consistent visual language of shapes, colors and functions, each piece in the system is a stand-alone, self-contained object but also part of a larger aesthetic whole.

Designer Rolands Landsbergs is the Latvian mastermind behind this series of ingenious designs. He has a background in showroom and exhibition work, which has clearly translated into his furniture and interior ideas. Following basic principles of “functionality, advanced technology and [modern] minimalism,” each modular ‘box’ can be transformed at the push of a button but is also constructed out of high-quality materials to remain rigid and durable during conversions and use.

In a further display of ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking, even the Boxetti website is designed around the aesthetics of the furniture itself – another reflection of the careful and thorough considerations that went into each phase of the design. Ingenious.

modular-office-furniture-design.jpg
A close second-best to the corner office, how about a side-wall one instead? These Boxetti units are full of surprises – in this case, a flip-out white desk or orange read-and-work nook are supplemented by integrated drawers, enclosed cabinets, slide-out shelving systems and other open-and-closed storage features.

Feeling like a bit of fresh air and open space? Slide the desk section out at a right angle and sit parallel to the unit on either side, depending on your home office layout. Plan to catch a snooze while you work? No worries – slide into a the form-fitting niche and read a book.

When you are finished, each shelf can be slid back in, the cabinets flipped shut and the extra desk folded away so that each piece of furniture packs back into position and sits within the unit, nearly flat against the wall. This would work as well in a bedroom or living room space as anywhere, perfect for people who want to have a home office but simply do not have the interior room to plan out an independent space.

bedroom-hideaway-folding-guest-bed.jpg
Murphy Beds started one of the longest and strangest trends in bedroom design: the concealed, fold-down wall bed concept. In some ways, Boxetti‘s most recent attempt is much like the original idea, but by integrating surrounding storage spaces (drawers, cabinets and closet area) the goal is less to ‘hide away’ the bed than it is to celebrate the modern modular nature of this dynamic sleeping unit.

Like the other modules in the Boxetti furniture and interior design series, as much as possible is packed into an appealing, small and self-contained box, designed to save space and make installation as simple as setting the object in place. In this case, a double bed folds down, night stand folds out and wardrobe slides open all from the same side.

Moreover, the entire unit can be operated manually or by remote control and even comes in with a built-in, ambiance-adding light fixture for mood lighting or light reading at night. Shelves, drawers and clothing rail are all neatly tucked in at appropriate heights around the central fold-out-bed piece. As such, the entire unit would work well for someone with a small studio apartment space or in a living room as an extra ‘instant’ bedroom-on-demand for guests.
