This project stems from the enthusiasm and commitment of Xavier Papiol and Carla Medina, a couple united by their desire to grow and build together, with Xavier being the third generation of a family with more than 60 years in the sector. Their brand specializes in contemporary rugs made by artisans in India, Pakistan, and Nepal using traditional techniques, focusing on their own collections that fuse modern design with artisanal know-how.Our task was to transform an industrial warehouse, originally organized into two separate office floors, into an open, double-height corner space that functions as a large showcase and showroom. To achieve this, both floors were connected by an interior staircase and various actions were carried out, which were executed with dedication and rigor by Studio Central Project. The partial demolition of the first floor created a double-height space that provides spaciousness and visibility. In turn, the opening of the façade with large windows invites passers-by to discover the interior, turning the showroom into a living showcase where the rugs take center stage.

Using a pulley system based on theater stage machinery, we were able to display the carpets at full size so that their beauty and quality could be admired. This practical system allows for dynamic changes whenever necessary. The entire space had to convey the sensitivity and craftsmanship that they imprint on their brand. The centerpiece is a six-meter latticework made by Fusteria Vidal, in walnut and ribbed glass, which provides privacy to the offices and serves as a backdrop for carpets suspended by a pulley system that allows them to be displayed dynamically.

The atmosphere is created with warm, natural materials: lime walls, micro-mortar flooring, and acoustic ceilings in tan tones. In the main office, a stretch ceiling with a natural fiber carpet in earth tones and black provides acoustic comfort and a creative nod to the product itself. The showroom incorporates mobile furniture for displays, sliding systems for organizing finished products, and a warehouse with direct access from the street. The upper floor contains offices, bathrooms, meeting rooms, an office, and a sample archive, visually connected by glass partitions that allow natural light to flow through.
The furniture combines pieces from Nikari—a Nordic brand represented by Cumellas—with designs from Mobles 114, Muuto, &tradition, Wastberg, Vibia, and Santa & Cole. For lighting, Viabizzuno provides warm, focused light that enhances the rugs without altering their tones. The result is a space that reflects the essence of Cumellas: the union between craftsmanship and contemporary design, naturalness and sophistication, designed to convey the excellence of its products and its commitment to traditional craftsmanship.
