橱柜体验中心 | Fisher & Paykel Design
Fisher & Paykel has reopened its New York Experience Centre, located within Manhattan’s Architects and Designers Building. Created in collaboration with local architecture firm Schiller Projects and strategic brand partner Alt Group, with Arclinea and Henrybuilt, the reimagined centre joins Auckland, London, Melbourne and Toronto in Fisher & Paykel’s expanding global portfolio of considered and contextually driven spaces.Though Fisher & Paykel’s experience centres are conceived as an expression of the company’s New Zealand heritage and unwavering design values, each is designed in close collaboration with a local architect or designer. It’s an approach that ensures these physical spaces champion Fisher & Paykel’s ethos while being connected to their respective contexts. Reimagining the New York space, which began with a deep dive into the city with architect Aaron Schiller, was no exception.
“When Fisher & Paykel came to New York from New Zealand to talk about the project, we soaked up the city together in order to distil who they are and what New York City is into a singular design that could reflect the values of both,” says Schiller. From the welcome plinth with hidden hot-rock induction, warming vessels of kawakawa tea – a herbal infusion made from the leaves of the native New Zealand kawakawa plant – to the gridded, dropped ceiling referencing Manhattan’s interlocking streets and gamut of natural materials (including locally quarried stone and North American timbers), the expression of Fisher & Paykel’s values through a contextually relevant lens is compelling. The layout unfurls across a series of cooking and lifestyle settings anchored by three distinct kitchens. This works two-fold, allowing Fisher & Paykel to showcase its products while offering architects and designers the opportunity to experience them in-situ. “We have a deep understanding of the built environment, and we also understand where our appliances fit into people’s homes, so for us, it’s really important to show the physical product in these exemplar kitchens,” says Simone Stephens, Fisher & Paykel’s principal designer and head of global D&A partnerships.
First, the Minimal Kitchen – imagined by the Fisher & Paykel Design Team and crafted by architectural millworker Edgewood Made – showcases the purity of Fisher & Paykel’s Minimal-style appliances. These visually recessive pieces intentionally blend into the cabinetry, offering a sculptural, furniture-like expression where integrated systems, concealed functionality and exceptional detailing prevail.Replete with seating for 20 guests, the Contemporary Kitchen is uniquely placed to host the Mastery of Temperature culinary experiences. A five-metre-long Arclinea island bench grounds the space alongside a dining table. Timber cabinetry conceals Column refrigerators and new modular cooktops sit flush within the stainless-steel island for superior expression and functionality. The Professional Kitchen, developed with Henrybuilt, reveals the interplay between robust Professional-style appliances and finely detailed timber joinery. Ideal for serious home cooks or avid entertainers, it beautifully demonstrates how a performance-driven kitchen with precision engineering can exist within the warmth and familiarity of a domestic setting.
Beyond these spaces, two compact kitchens created with Space Theory illustrate how luxury can be achieved in smaller urban footprints through deliberate detailing and precise appliance placement. There is also a large-format DCS Outdoor Kitchen, spaces dedicated to fabric care and wine storage, and lounge areas for industry professionals and their clients to pause, plan and consider their selections with resources and expertise at their fingertips.“We have a design engagement team who are there to support designers,” says Stephens, adding that she hopes “architects and designers will go away inspired by the possibility of the appliances and the potential for them and their designs”.
Fisher & Paykel CEO Daniel Witten-Hannah echoes this sentiment, saying the space “deepens our connection with North America’s design community and reflects a rising demand for contemporary luxury expressed through elevated design, performance innovation and mindfulness of the carbon impact of appliances within the home”.Indeed, objectives like supporting culinary precision and facilitating design excellence, as well as introducing innovations that reduce water and energy consumption, are all part of Fisher & Paykel’s remit. And its New York Experience Centre provides the ultimate setting in which to touch, feel and see exactly what these appliances are capable of.
