Articolo’s lighting graces a stellar roll call of retail, hospitality and accommodation spaces, including Ritz-Carlton’s Al Bustan Palace in Oman and flagship stores for Cartier, Hermès and Tiffany & Co. in New York. The brand’s pieces also feature in homes by leading local and international architects and interior designers, from Studio Goss’s Cape Schanck, Thirty Anderson by Rob Mills Architects and AKI Interior Architecture’s Fawkner Residence to Residence Norah by Belgian firm Glenn Sestig Architects and Laguna Hills Villa by Diachok Architects. While Articolo Studios forged its reputation on lighting, introducing Articolo Home added another dimension to the business. The range emerged from Kavals’ desire to craft furniture that embodied the company’s distinctive aesthetic – layered, textured, contemporary and timeless. That philosophy comes to life in pieces like the Flare side table, a sculptural form comprising an octagonal base and flared upper section, available in burnished brass or leather. The Saddle armchair and ottoman take an altogether different design direction: linen-composite cushions suspended in a leather sling supported by solid walnut legs. For Kavals, it’s been a deeply rewarding journey. “To express myself creatively through the play of light and shade is a genuine gift, and to have that appreciated by other designers the world over is incredibly rewarding,” she says. “It’s certainly an amusing juxtaposition to where we started – working between our local cafe and our first HQ, a rather unglamorous storage unit that served as our workroom for quality control, packing and dispatch.”
To mark the anniversary, Articolo Studios released three new collections at Melbourne Design Week, displayed at its new Richmond flagship showroom in Melbourne.
