The brief for this Princes Hill home was to create a space that captured the intimacy and refinement of a Milanese pied-à-terre, while remaining entirely suited to everyday life in Melbourne. Working within the existing Victorian shell, the focus was on layering rather than overhaul, allowing the character of the home to remain intact while introducing a more considered, expressive interior language.
Our approach drew on the spirit of Milanese modernism, balancing restraint with moments of richness. Materials were used to define transitions between spaces: a marble-patterned entry creates a sense of arrival, while shifts in joinery, curtain lines and thresholds subtly delineate zones without interrupting flow. The palette is warm and tonal, grounded by natural materials and punctuated with moments of contrast.
