Charmaine’s, the rooftop at the San Francisco Proper Hotel, is set 120 feet above iconic Market Street with spectacular sweeping views of the City by the Bay. Charmaine’s, the rooftop at the San Francisco Proper Hotel, is set 120 feet above iconic Market Street with spectacular sweeping views of the City by the Bay. From the colorful, unexpected and refined European-influenced design to the uniquely curated cocktails created to be uniquely and intricately tied to the destination of San Francisco, Charmaine’s is at its essence an ode to the city it calls home.

Respecting San Francisco’s history with a reimagining of the past and an infusion of the city’s modern spirit and creativity, the design reflects the natural beauty and decorative living environments of the Viennese Secession art movement, with colorful floral patterns mingling with bold geometric designs on one-of-a-kind furniture and accents across a series of residential salon vignettes. The dynamic, streamlined ebonized wood and brass bar at one end of the interior space is appointed with a row of crimson leather and wrought iron bar stools while the vista at the other end centers on a checkerboard tiled fireplace with distinctive seating areas of a reimagined European salon.At every turn are unique vintage furnishings inspired by historical, iconic designers such as Jean Royère, Gio Ponti and Adolf Loos, and richly patterned vintage rugs that bring additional warmth and residential layering atop ebonized walnut floors.

The surrounding modern rooftop terrace was conceived in consideration of the compelling city vistas in addition to the beauty of the original fleur-de-lis copper cornice outlining the Beaux-Art building’s exterior.A series of intimate seating areas centered around individual fire pits are enveloped by metal planters with lush greenery lining the perimeter of clear glass panels that afford uninterrupted views of the skyline –from Nob Hill to SoMa to City Hall—as well as the patinaed fleur-de-lis.
