Articolo Studios has unveiled Seam – Convergence of Materiality, a new collection exploring the intersection of light, art and craftsmanship. Launched globally in May 2026, the wall sconce range presents a series of geometric, sculptural forms distinguished by deliberately exposed joins between materials, transforming their handmade construction into a defining aesthetic feature.

At the heart of Seam lies a visible junction between raw brass and stainless steel, or a pronounced brass weld line. Rather than concealing these connections, Articolo Studios celebrates them, allowing material tension, process and craftsmanship to remain visible within the finished work. The resulting pieces, seamed by rivulets of bubbled metal tracking, blend restraint and complexity.

Behind Seam’s apparent simplicity lies an intricate process of development. Combining brass and stainless steel is technically demanding due to differences in melting points, thermal expansion and zinc vaporisation. Leaving these joins exposed presents an additional challenge, requiring months of refinement and close collaboration between designers, engineers and artisans.

“The collection is highly complex in its simplicity and reflects many iterations to achieve,” says Nicci Kavals, Articolo’s founder and principal. “The artisans we work with are highly skilled in their craft and are accustomed to us pushing materials beyond their perceived limits.”

This spirit of exploration has become central to the studio’s identity. Rather than pursuing flawless surfaces, Seam embraces the evidence of its making. Transitions and junctions become visual focal points, celebrating material honesty and the human hand behind each piece.

“Seam was conceived through a desire to create a collection that is completely one of a kind,” says Articolo creative director Emma Mahlook. “Working with experienced craftsmen who are unafraid to go beyond the expected, every piece emerges as a unique bespoke artwork, made by artisans’ hands.”

That dialogue between artistry and technical precision is echoed throughout the collection. “The engineering on each fixture is complex and yet visually there is a refined simplicity,” says design director Charlie Cross.

Celebrating craftsmanship, materiality and process, Seam reveals the beauty of imperfection while reinforcing the studio’s belief that light can become more than illumination. Here, between rifts of glimmering brass and steel travelling like crinkles in the earth’s surface, the glow of light expresses making, meaning and enduring design.

The collection reflects Articolo Studios’ commitment to creating lighting that transcends function. Founded in Melbourne in 2015, the studio has established an international reputation for sculptural lighting combining sophisticated engineering with an elevated design sensibility. Today, with showrooms in Melbourne and New York, Articolo continues to champion objects that bring atmosphere, emotion and a sense of poetry to everyday life.
