Designed by In Addition, the brand’s fourth bricks-and-mortar store brings a bright, calm presence to the Market Pavilion precinct that echoes the fresh, playful energy of Hommey’s home essentials. “We wanted to create this beautiful beacon of light that feels like a respite,” says Ana Ćalić McLean, co-director of In Addition alongside Josh McLean.

Having previously collaborated with Hommey on its Fitzroy flagship, the In Addition team were keen to do things a bit differently. Here, a key influence for the interiors was the pillowy curves of the Hommey logo itself. Gentle arcs appear in the sweeping facade and in the organic cut-out, which provides a sightline from the front of the store to the sculptural point-of-sale unit at the rear. The boutique’s neutral palette is accented with powder blue – a nod to one of Hommey’s signature colourways – allowing the brand’s bold towels, striped robes and colourful bed linen to take centre-stage.

One of the key challenges was incorporating a bed into the modest footprint without overwhelming the space. “For us, it was about creating a really activated key moment in the middle of the store,” says Ana. Inspired by boutique hotels, the bed is set against an oversized bedhead clad in burl timber veneer – a material chosen for its nostalgic nod to 1960s and ‘70s bedroom suites. “We aimed to use materiality that you would find at home, but push and challenge it,” notes Josh.

In this central zone, the flooring transitions from pale timber to terrazzo to plush carpet, mirroring the soft sky-blue ceiling above. A Molo Lighting pendant floats cloud-like above the bed, while sheer floor-to-ceiling drapes create a diffused, cocooning atmosphere. “In that little environment, Hommey can showcase the doona cover or set that’s trending at the moment without it being too overt,” says Ana.

Discovery and a sense of play were also important, with customers drawn to explore the space beyond the bedhead to find a cosy seating area and further displays. Wardrobe-style joinery with upholstered niches line the perimeter, while at the rear, a wall of soft, cushion-like tiles and fitting room curtains in blue velvet echo the plush materials of the Hommey range.

The facade was also an opportunity for creativity. “In a sea of facades, how do you stand out?” pitches Josh. The solution was to blend the classic and contemporary. Referencing Melbourne’s more traditional architecture, a terrazzo base meets slender pillars that rise up to a powder-blue bulkhead in the iconic Hommey curve. The result is striking and instantly recognisable.

With this latest boutique, In Addition has delivered a space that feels distinctly Hommey, where every line, texture and detail speaks to the label’s promise of comfort, style and a little moment of escape.
