A gentle breeze passes through the fir eaves, vines climbing among the steel arches, and dappled shadows fall on the flower path and handcrafted bricks. Under the sunlight, this residential complex composed of four buildings located in Los Angeles seems like a "small Italian village" hidden in the urban fabric. After three years, Electric Bowery reconstructed an ideal lifestyle in the language of architecture, revitalized this group of Craftsman style bungalows built in the 1920s, and centered on the courtyard, narrated the memories and future of the home.
Venice Compoud
Venice Compoud is a complex residential complex distributed across two adjacent plots, consisting of the main house, guest house, treehouse and independent studio. The designer regards it as a whole. Through the re-layout of the site, the structure of the courtyard and the weaving of the walkways, a living system like a "micro village" is constructed. Make the home a collection of Spaces and also the place where daily life takes place.
Electric Bowery
Electric Bowery intentionally respects the historical background of the original building while retaining its original style elements. Through methods such as customizing stained glass Windows, restoring the original Windows, and adjusting the proportion of wooden components, it aims to rejuvenate the building and integrate it into contemporary design to construct a rich hierarchy of culture and memory.
The main house unfolds layer by layer starting from the porch. A walk-in foyer connects the living room and the kitchen, and then leads to the center of the courtyard. As the "pulse" of daily life, the courtyard not only connects various buildings but also becomes the focal point of vision and emotion. Wandering through the elaborately designed paths, pergolas and bergamot plants in Campion Walker Landscapes, one can obtain a feeling that is both rigorous and relaxed.
Each building has its own independence: the guest house comes with its own kitchen and living room, and welcomes relatives and friends to stay for a short time. The main house is the core of the family. The tree house symbolizes seclusion. The studio, on the other hand, provides the owner with a creative space where rationality and inspiration coexist. The functional zoning in this way is not intentional dispersion, but rather to build a more flexible boundary of life within the connection.
Urban Electric
The different interiors are all infused with rich and bold color languages: the eggplant purple kitchen, the olive green dining room, the cream-colored walls and the brass details. Color becomes a tool for regulating emotions, evoking a sense of interaction between the residents and the space. The kitchen island is like an old piece of furniture, natural and unpretentious, carrying the warmth and ceremony of the home.
KJ Patterson
In terms of material selection, the designer adheres to the warmth of handcrafting and the authenticity of nature. Custom-made walnut wood veneer, matte brick walls, solid wood flooring and brass hardware fittings all present a sense of honesty that returns to the essence of texture. The exterior walls of the treehouse are covered with cedar shingles, creating a warm and simple atmosphere, just like a contemporary library, quiet and spiritually rich.
From custom-made lamps to antique-style furniture, from wallpaper patterns to the configuration of lighting, every detail is designed to express the emphasis on the quality of life. Design is not decoration; rather, it is through the exquisite arrangement of rhythm, layers and blank space that daily fragments are engraved in people's hearts. Just as the designer said, "What we pursue is a more elegant yet humorous life."
This treehouse hidden in the bamboo forest serves as both a play space for children and a spiritual refuge for adults. The built-in reading corner, Noguchi's Akari lamps and the wraparound book wall jointly create a place that seems to stop time. It is a spiritual vessel beyond its specific functions, a small temple designed and quietly surrounded by the fragrance of books.
Electric Bowery
Electric Bowery has its own contemporary language: respecting materials, place spirit and real life. In this project, what is revived is not just a group of mansions, but also awakens an imagination of a neighborhood lifestyle: taking the home as the village, the courtyard as the axis, and using the hand of design to reposition people's instinctive longing for natural habitation.
